Port Aventura celebrates its 10th anniversary

Visitors who dare to try out this impressive attraction will feel their weight multiply by three as they plummet. Besides, they can choose the type of experience they want to live. There will be three kinds of seats: normal static ones, others with a slight tilt that will make the sensation of falling even more intense, and a third type, which also has a tilt but no leg support for passengers.

The fall ends in a 79-foot high building, where different special effects take place. Therefore, the attraction will have a double incentive and could be considered to be a 2 in 1, as you can do the tail and just see the sets without going up to the free fall. This is already being done, for example, in the Duelling Dragons attraction of the theme park Islands of Adventure run by Universal Orlando Resort. Perhaps the free fall will also have some special light, fire, sound or smoke effects.

This space, of a height similar to an eight-storey block, is inspired by the Torre de Palacio, a construction of the Mexican city of Palenque, in the state of Chiapas.

On the whole, the fall lasts roughly 5 seconds. The brakes will be magnetic; that is to say, they function with magnets and do not need electricity. The tails are situated in two buildings next to the attraction, and are also decorated with Mayan motifs such as ruins, vegetation, etc.

Inauguration of the 10th season with Bertín Osborne and family

The opening of the new 2005 season took place last Friday, 18 March and the famous personality invited to inaugurate the new season was the Spanish TV presenter and singer, Bertín Osborne. This well-known face, along with his three daughters (Alejandra, Eugenia and Claudia) blew out the candles of a huge cake and they were also accompanied by Woody Woodpecker.

This is PortAventura’s first public event after changing its name and logos. Moreover, this season will see the celebration of other special events at Halloween and Christmas in order to commemorate its 10th anniversary.

Apart from Hurakan Condor, another great novelty will be the increase in street animation and new shows. Woody and Winnie will welcome visitors in Mediterránia, with a small show. In Polynesia we will meet pirates who want to share out their booty. In China, we will be able to see a micro-puppet show called "“Newspaper Readers”. In Mexico, road sweepers will improvise fun rhythms with their tools. And in the Far West, we will have a new animation with a sheriff and prisoners.

Besides these novelties, some PortAventura characters will be returning after a few years’ absence, like the Emperor of China or the Far West Preacher. Adventure awaits you!
