CHINOOK PASS SCENIC BYWAY

Chinook Pass Scenic Byway -- Start the engine in Enumclaw.  This picturesque dairy town of 12,000, an hour southeast of Seattle, entices motorcycle enthusiasts with uncongested roads and breathtaking views of Mt. Rainier and the Cascade foothills.  Embark upon the 87-mile, twisty-windy journey through Chinook Pass, a historic trading route through the Cascade Mountains that is closed during winter months.  Try this trip in late spring when mountain meadows are brilliant green or in early fall when foliage turns hillsides into copper canvases.

LOCALS SUGGEST
Ideas for eats:  In Enumclaw:  The Mint, a non-smoking pub with an array of microbrews and mouthwatering pizza.  The newly rebuilt Yella Beak Saloon is home to “Thunder Thursday” drink and food specials for its two-wheeled clientele and offers a more traditional Harley rider atmosphere.  In Naches:  Roadside fruit stands dot the landscape. Filled with plump, juicy peaches and sweet, crunchy apples, these local mercantiles offer refreshing snacking opportunities.  For more information on these cities,  www.nachesvalleychamber.com
