<< Hanover

Our destination takes us to the town of Celle, a place that is known well beyond its borders for two things: the beautifully maintained old part of town, with its lovingly restored half-timbered houses, and the Lower Saxony state stud farm, which is home to the hardy, yet elegant Hanoverian breed of horse.

The stud farm is located inside Celle, and is easily reached after a short walk through the old part of town. A visit to the farm is an unforgettable experience, even for those who may not be horseback riding fans. Our next stop takes us to the castle that has been the home of generations of Welfen dukes. The huge castle, with its magnificent Renaissance chapel, is only one of 500 buildings that stand under historic protection here, and chronicles the historic development of the region. It also houses Germany's oldest baroque theater, which is still used for live performances.
