Car Hire

So you have decided to roll into town in comfort, eh ?! Lucky you ! Many roads in Ireland have been rebuilt and upgraded in the past few years, thus ensuring journey times are now a lotless than they used to be. However new roads also means 'road works', so expect some diversions and 'men at work' warning signs when you set out.

Car hire is available at all airports and ferry ports with a variety of international and local firms who will be happy to compete for your business [some links are provided below]. However, they won't compete too much ! Car hire in Ireland is still extremely expensive, working out at about ? - ? a day depending on the car size. As such if you intend to fly here, you may find it is cheaper to book a car in advance as part of a fly-hire arrangement with your airline.

Before you hire a car ensure that your licence is valid in Ireland and that you familiarise yourself with the rules of the road. Also note that direction signposts in Ireland can be pretty confusing and untrustworthy making navigation quite difficult especially off the main roads. A good map is therefore essential [our recommendations for maps].

And one more thing?
drive on the left, conduit a gauche, links fahren, tiom?n ar chl? !
