Every visitor to the island of Usedom knows the Baltic seaside resorts of Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck; but we have been taking a look a round the resort of Bansin, which stands somewhat in the shadow of its neighbours. Although it is slightly smaller and was the last to get a pier, Bansin is nevertheless remarkable for its peaceful and unadulterated flair.
The fishermen sell their catch right on the beach and in the evening you can feast on fresh Baltic fish. The locals are always willing to chat and happy to tell you about the good old days when well-known actor Heinz Rohmann used to come to Bansin on holiday - and drink many a glass of beer with them. But bathing in the waves of the Baltic is not the only source of peace and relaxation; so too is the idyllic landscape with its sea inlets, known as "boddens". And those wanting cultural stimulation should visit Wolgast, where a little museum has been set up in the house where the painter Phillip Otto Runge was born, displaying his most beautiful works.
