Rostock Legends, Germany

Find the best deals on accommodation in Germany here!

The Pied Piper of Hamelin, the Bremen Town Musicians - many German cities are closely associated with stories and legends. Rostock isn't mentioned in any of the Grimm tales, but a visit to a most unusual museum provides background into many different kinds of legend. And the best part is, you don't even have to leave the comfort of your own home - the Rostock Legend Museum is a website!

The visitor to the site can choose various routes through the city, and then click through for stories about certain locations - for instance, how astronomer Tycho Brahe supposedly lost his nose in a fight in front of the Marienkirche cathedral. As a museum of legends and tales, the website leaves it to the visitor to sort out fact from fiction. This is especially true of the "Magical Animal Path," where the Rostock Zoo introduces its visitors to the symbolic meanings of animals like the eagle, the snake and the owl in various mythologies and religions.
