Find the best deals on accommodation in Germany here!

North-west of Cuxhaven, right in the heart of the Hamburgisches Wattenmeer national park lie the little islands of Neuwerk and Scharhorn. There are no cars on these islands, so you'll find plenty of rest and relaxation here in the fresh sea air. Neuwerk is easily identified by its 45 meter high fortified tower, built in 1310. It is the oldest building on the German coast, originally serving as a protection against pirates. Neuwerk is also famous for its amber, a form of fossilised resin.

With a bit of luck, you can discover these little treasures for yourself here. If you don't find your own, you can enjoy the island's amber collection which is renowned throughout Europe. But not only people can relax on Neuwerk, valuable racehorses are also sent to the little island for rest and recuperation. By horse and coach it takes about an hour to cross the mud flats and reach the bird island of Scharhorn, a paradise for ornithologists.
