Our destination lead us to the North Sea coast in the state of Lower Saxony. The towns of Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven have always had strong ties to the sea. After paying a short visit to Cuxhaven's busy wharf, we head over to the Shipwreck Museum. Visitors here get a glimpse into the flip-side of life on the high seas ' the tragedy of ship-sinkings. Depicted in paintings and photographs are some of the most famous maritime disasters, including objects recovered from them and the stories of the individuals involved.

Our next stop is at the Seafaring Museum in Bremerhaven. Visitors to this museum can not only see examples of the ships and boats that once sailed the waters of the North Sea, they can go aboard real sailing ships tied up in the museum's harbor. Finally, we make our way to the very unusual island of Neuwerk. What makes the island unusual, is that when the tide is out, visitors can reach the island, not by boat, but by horse-drawn cart.
