Culture, not Coal Germany

Coal, steel and industry- this was once the predominating idea of the Ruhrgebiet. Today, totally new emphases are set, and suddenly, they attracttourists to a region formerly regarded as terra incognita....

The city of Oberhausen, for example, is on its way to change both face and identity at the highest speed. Instead of mining and steel industry, the latest trump-card are arts and commerce. With the museum Schlo Oberhausen and the Gasometer, an exhibition centre in a former gas reservoir, the city disposes of two renowned art expositions at the same time.

Furthermore, Germany`s largest shopping and event centre was opened here, called Centro. Almost a city on its own, where everything a heart can desire seems available, including entertainment-offers for young and old.
