<< Cologne

For more than 750 years, the Cologne Cathedral has been both the architectural and cultural heart of the Rhine metropolis. It also houses historic objects of incalculable value, such as the golden Sarcophagus of the Epiphany and the opulent cathedral treasure chamber. The area around the cathedral is also home to many important museums and art galleries.

For example, the Romisch-Germanisches Museum, which houses Europe's largest collection of Roman relics, dating back to the time when Cologne was a Roman settlement, a little more than 2,000 years ago. In fact, Cologne's name was given by Agrippina, wife of the Roman emperor Claudius, who proclaimed her "Colonia" a city in the year 50 AD.

Also during our visit in Cologne, we sample a very different kind of cultural treasure in the form of "Tonnes un Schol", two local entertainers who specialize in telling humorous anecdotes in the local "Kolsch" dialect. We finish our visit in Cologne by wetting our whistles with one of the best beers in Germany, Kolsch. Cheers!
