The Priory hotel

The Priory of Lady St Mary dates from the early sixteenth century, and for centuries has offered sanctuary to weary travellers. Standing in four acres of landscaped gardens on the banks of the River Frome, the Priory has now undergone conversion into a charming country house hotel.

Fifteen bedrooms have been individually decorated and furnished with antiques to retain the character of the original building, with a further four luxury suites created within the Boathouse, a short distance from the main building in its own gardens on the bank of the river. Carefully converted from a 16th century clay barn, the latter form an impressive addition to the hotel's accommodation, with a choice of superb views of the Purbeck hills or a four poster bed and balcony overlooking the garden. The Abbott's Cellar Restaurant serves award-winning traditional English cooking accompanied by a fine wine list: breakfast and lunch are taken in the Garden Room on the ground floor, which can also be used for private parties.

The ancient market town of Wareham is situated at the gateway to the Isle of Purbeck, five miles from Corfe Castle in a region abounding with natural beauty and historic sites: Wareham alone has 200 buildings listed as of architectural interest. Rambling, fishing and sailing are among the many activities which can be enjoyed in the area: moorings are available for guests arriving by boat.
