Michaels Nook Hotel

Built in 1859, Michaels Nook is a fine early Lakeland house which takes its name from Wordsworth's "Michael", a shepherd who earned his humble living among the magnificent fells of the Vale of Grasmere.

Opened as a hotel in 1969, it is now well established as one of our leading country house hotels. Interiors retain the original Victorian panelling and plasterwork, ornamented by a magnificent collection of predominantly English prints, rugs, porcelain and furniture selected over many years by the proprietor. Open fires blaze hospitably in the public areas, with an abundance of flowers and plants adding to the intimacy and comfort of this most romantically English of establishments. The guest rooms exhibit the same attention to detail: twelve double bedrooms provided with a host of luxurious touches, and two suites which can be either double or twin-bedded; one boasting a sitting room which commands spectacular views across the valley, and the other with sitting room and private patio. The Restaurant perfectly complements the ambience of the hotel, and wins regular plaudits for the delicacy and imagination with which fresh local produce is presented ably supported by the quality and value of the wine list.

Set among some of Britain's most uplifting scenery, and with three acres of private gardens, guests are also free to enjoy the superb leisure facilities of the nearby Wordsworth Hotel during their stay.
