of Poland.
For centuries, nationalities, religions, traditions have
mixed there, creating a unique cultural environment.
This, combined with the most beautiful nature and
architecturally impressive cities create a perfect tourist destination.
Check out the following suggestions before you plan you trip:
A WEEKEND IN… SZCZECIN AND
SWINOUJSCIE
Swinoujscie and Szczecin can be considered, along with Gdansk, Gdynia and
Sopot, as gate to Poland for Scandinavian tourists.
It is there where ferry boats arrive from Sweden and Denmark.
It is there where thousands of Scandinavians find great vacation and shopping
facilities every year.
Szczecin is a city situated where the river Odra meets the Baltic Sea (through
Szczecin Bay).
For centuries this location has been the junction for major European transit
routes.
Nowadays, Szczecin is the capital of a new province, the West Pomerania.
Szczecin has a reputation as a 'green city', and not without reason.
There are few cities in Poland with so many parks, water areas, and convenient
climatic conditions for residence or tourism.
Only an hour's journey by car, rail or waterway divides the residents of
Szczecin from well-known seaside resorts: Swinoujscie, Miedzyzdroje, Dziwnow,
and Rewal.
The biggest tourist attraction in Szczecin is the Pomeranian Duke’s Castle,
which already existed during the Christianization of West Pomerania in 12th
century! Since those times, it has witnessed many historical events.
Nowadays, it hosts plenty cultural institutions, like opera and operetta and
exhibition bureau.
Many cultural events are organized there.
For more details please go to www.szczecin.pl or www.zamek.szczcin.pl.
One our drive from Szczecin in the north direction is one of Poland’s best spas
situated.
Swinoujscie has got much to offer to its visitors.
The widest beach in Poland, unspoilt environment, specific microclimate, salt
springs and therapeutic mud, as well as the sea-ferry terminal for passengers
and cargo, pedestrian border crossing to Germany, as well as many other
attractions make two Swinoujscie islands, Wolin and Uznam a perfect holiday
spot, also in the winter and springtime.
A favorite place for leisurely walks and relaxation for both local residents
and tourists is the magnificent Spa Park.
Founded 170 years ago, the Park abounds in species of Mediterranean vegetation.
There are numerous nature monuments throughout the town as well.
Visitors are also recommended to visit the neo-gothic "Stella Maris"
Church of the Holy Virgin with picturesque stained-glass windows.
All year round, pleasure-boats are underway between Swinoujscie and Sassnitz on
Rugen, and the nearby German summer resorts: Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin.
The island of Karsiborska Kepa, an internationally renowned bird sanctuary with
a huge diversity of bird species nesting here, is a paradise for ornithologists
and photographers.
Not more than 15 kilometers away from the town the Wolin National Park is located.
On the German side of the Uznam Island, just behind the border, lies the Usedom
Nature Park.
