In the far west of the country lies one of the Germany's historically most important cities: Aachen. A glance at its past shows that the town has always been rather special. The ancient Romans felt at home here, Charlemagne chose Aachen as his imperial seat, and in more recent times numerous famous people have come here for health cures. That alone is ample reason to visit the town.

We begin our tour at the impressive cathedral. This huge edifice is listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site and abounds with remarkable architectural features, as well as history. After all for 600 years it was the place where the German kings were crowned. In vivid contrast to the cathedral, a visit to the Ludwig Forum for International Art will appeal particularly to the lovers of modern art. This former factory building of Bauhaus design houses masterpieces of pop art and other modern international styles.

And those who prefer to relax in peaceful surroundings will also come into their own in Aachen. The new Carolus Thermals complement the traditional spa facilities of the town, offering a wide-ranging wellness programme that includes thermal baths, sauna landscapes, gastronomic treats and a caravanserai where you can dream yourself into the Orient in an artificial desert climate.
