Charlton House & The Mulberry Restaurant

Charlton has been a manor house since at least the eleventh century, when it was first recorded in the Domesday Book. Reputedly built for his bride by the merchant Roger Ames in 1630, no less impressive a labour of love has been its conversion into a top class hotel by Roger and Monty Saul, creators of the internationally renowned Mulberry Company.

This classic English country house, painstakingly restored to its former splendour, provides the perfect setting for the opulence of the Mulberry Home collection which adorns it. Throughout the house the trademark Mulberry respect for classical elegance and simplicity treated with innovation and flair creates a richly romantic ambience. Sumptuous fabrics and furnishings provide a compelling backdrop to paintings, antiques, and curios: each of the sixteen bedrooms proudly displays an identity entirely of its own; all are fitted out to a uniformly high standard of luxury and comfort. Jewel in Charlton's crown is the Mulberry Restaurant, where traditional respect for only the finest local produce finds exotic and deeply satisfying expression. Roger Saul's passion for the grape is amply reflected in a wine list as evocative as the surroundings.

With private dining and meeting rooms and the lovely Mulberry Gardens available for hire, Charlton House is ideal for private or corporate entertaining. The tennis court, indoor plunge, trout lake, and croquet lawn may tempt those of a competitive inclination, with golf and horse riding also in the immediate vicinity.
